USEFUL TIPS |
High Altitude HOC activities other than expeditions fall in the High Altitude (HA), between 3000-5100 m. Participants should be reasonably fit. People suffering from lung and heart problems should consult their physician before participation. HA is physically demanding, therefore acclimatisation is necessary. It is advisable to take it easy and steady during the first two days. A bit of headache, dizziness, cough, loss of appetite, insomnia or nausea may take place in some cases in the beginning In case it persists, a physician needs to be consulted or there is a need to descend to lower altitudes. A personal medical kit with emergency supplies is essential. Distances are VAST and areas sparsely populated. Carry adequate supply of skin / sun creams, lotions and chapsticks.
Photography Films and batteries for cameras should be carried in quantity, because local procurement is NOT always possible. Photography of Army installations, bridges and airfields is prohibited.
Eco Aspects The region is ecologically and culturally fragile. Relate to the simple local folks with respect and warmth. Please DO NOT distribute toffees amongst children. Drinking and smoking in Gompas, monasteries and places of worship is NOT allowed. Touching , handling or removal of art objects, religious relics in Gompas, chortens and mane walls in NOT done. Visitors may have to remove their shoes in some Gompas. Please DO NOT LITTER THE LAND.
Dress Code Light woolens during the daytime. Heavy woolens for evenings and mornings. Temperature varies a lot in dry HA of the region. |
